doingしか目的語にとらない動詞

今まで間違って使ってた気がする・・・特に、suggest


He admitted breaking the window.

I avoided talking to you.

He denied breaking the window.

I suggested taking a break.

I considered going to UK.

to do/doingで意味が変わる動詞- need

stop, remember, forgetの用法については知っていたけど、この表現を使ったこともないし、存在さえ知らなかった。

You need to paint the wall.
The wall needs painting.　＝ The wall needs to be painted.

need to doは「～する必要がある」 need doingは「～される必要がある」
need doingは受け身の意味を持っているから、need to be doneと書き換えられる。

暗記するしかない動名詞の慣用表現

It goes without saying that (～は言うまでもない)
it goes without saying that she like him.

cannot help doing　（～せずにはいられない）
I tried to smile, but I couldn't help crying.

It is no use doing　（～しても仕方がない・無駄だ）
It is no use waiting for his reply. He wouldn't do it.

be worth doing （～する価値がある）
Spain is worth visiting!
